"a new centre for the contemporary arts" Union Terrace Gardens, Aberdeen

FOCUS WEEK MARCH 2010,

Currently situated in the heart of Aberdeen City Centre lies a rich and historic large scale garden below street level. A proposal which is threatening to completely remove this landscape is under heavy debate, this proposal involves raising the garden to street level, offering a practical urban space for anyone to occupy. This landscape architecture project, if constructed, will encourage more shops to be situated and a large car park will also be situated on site to support many site occupiers.

Sir Ian Wood, has offered £50m to support this propositon(total funding of £140+m). Newspaper Evening Express" released a survery to gain input from the public, 53% of those who expressed their views agreed with the construction of this "civic square". However, a large number of people remained within the surveys minority, raising their opinion and pin-pointing concerning issues that may come to surface.

A group named "UTG" firmly disagrees with the propisition, their intention is to preserve Aberdeen's most traditional public garden.
